TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The top priority of Florida's craft brewers this legislative session is to legalize half-gallon beer jugs that are popular in 47 other states.
The jugs are known as growlers and beer enthusiasts around the nation can get them filled at breweries to take home.
Florida does allow gallon- and quart-sized growlers, but the industry standard 64-ounce container is illegal.
Senate President Don Gaetz can't give a reason why the jugs should be outlawed, but he also says he will only back a bill to legalize them if his friend and political donor approves.
That friend is an Anheuser-Busch InBev beer distributor.
And the bill he's pushing would only allow the half-gallon growlers if additional regulations are enacted that craft brewers say will hurt them.
