HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA.com) - New school buses for the Hillsborough County School District may be months away, but already there are changes taking place at the district's transportation department.

Superintendent Maryellen Elia held a number of meetings with employees who brought up issues with equipment, pay, morale and training. Those issues are currently being addressed.

Laura Hill is the department's operations manager. She pointed out several new bus lifts that just came in. They'll be used to elevate buses, making them easier to work on. She says employees understand a change in culture doesn't happen overnight.

"Everyone knows it's a process and everybody kind of understands and is willing to work through the changes and get things moving in the right direction," said Hill.
