Rihanna Is The Focus Of Twitter Drama After Texting During A Broadway Play

Rihanna took over New York Fashion Week with her extravagant Savage x Fenty Show and the fifth installment of her Diamond Ball, but the pop titan also managed to sneak in some fun by attending the Broadway show, Slave Play. However, her visit to the show prompted some major drama as the star apparently texted during the middle of the production.

Slave Play writer, Jeremy O. Harris, took to Twitter after the show to admit that he held the curtain because "his idol" was running late. He also revealed that he received complimentary texts from Rih during the show. While his revelations were laced with high praise and humor, they didn't sit well with some users. "She texted throughout the performance," one user wrote. "Multiple 'common' audience members who paid for their tickets have confirmed this. Stop applauding her behavior."

When Harris questioned the reaction, the user suggested that he should have condemned her behavior in a similar way that Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda reportedly banned Madonna from attending future shows in 2015 because she was on her phone during her visit to the critically-acclaimed show.

"I respect Lin's position, I just don’t share it. I’m not interested in policing anyone’s relationship to watching a play ESPECIALLY someone who isn't a part of the regular theatregoing crowd," he hit back. "Moreover, as ppl on this site know I'm famously ambivalent abt phone use in theatre."

Head over to Harris' Twitter feed to read up on the controversy surrounding her visit to the show and "proper theatre etiquette."
