Video Shows Good Samaritans In New York City Lifting SUV Off Trapped Woman

A group of bystanders in New York City jumped into action after a woman was struck by an SUV. The 25-year-old woman, who was not identified, was trapped underneath the vehicle, and multiple people ran across the street to help.

"All of a sudden, everyone started running to lift the car," bystander Colby Droscher told WABC. "And that's when a lot of us across the street realized that there was something under the SUV."

About a dozen people rushed over and managed to lift the vehicle on its passenger side wheels and free the woman from underneath the SUV.

Colby snapped a photo of the woman using her cell phone while speaking with first responders. She suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

"Eyewitnesses and bystanders came to the victim's aide by collectively lifting the Mercedes off the ground, which allowed the victim to slide out to safety," Detective Arlene Muniz told Gothamist. "The victim only suffered pain, cuts, and bruising and was treated and released at the hospital."

Officials said the woman was in the crosswalk when she was struck by a 65-year-old driver who was making a right turn. According to How's My Driving NY, the SUV has been issued 63 traffic citations over the past six years.

Following the accident, the driver was issued a ticket for failing to yield.
