YNW Melly Says He's Dying From COVID-19, Begs For Release From Jail

YNW Melly is begging a judge to release him from jail.

According to TMZ, the imprisoned rapper, born Jamell Maurice Demons, says he's on the verge of dying after contracting COVID-19 and wants to be let out of jail to seek better medical treatment.

Melly's attorney, Bradford Cohen, filed legal documents, obtained by the outlet, claiming that his client, who is currently in jail awaiting his murder trial, is suffering from "severe chills, heavy labored breathing, headaches and body aches since he tested positive for the coronavirus." He added that Melly "weighs 114 pounds and has not been monitored by medical personnel every hour like they're supposed to."

Bradford additionally claims that Melly has been locked in a cell with another inmate who also has COVID-19 and there's fear "if the virus can be mutated or passed reoccurring between individuals."

"They have not given them masks, or cleaning supplies that would be beneficial regarding his recovery," Bradford noted, citing the jail's lack of preparedness. "This is against all recommendations of the Surgeon General and CDC."

The 20-year-old rapper's legal team is asking the judge to allow Melly to be released and placed on house arrest so that he can be treated at a medical facility at his own expense.

As fans know, Melly has been locked up for over year after being charged with the double murder of two of his friends.

Over the weekend, it was announced that Melly had "tested positive for COVID-19 today while awaiting his trial in Broward County Jail."

"He’ll be filing a motion for restricted release in hopes of better care due to any jails not being prepared to treat this new virus," read the statement shared on Instagram. "He hopes for your support and to recover soon #prayformelly send positive energy to him please."

Melly's team later shared screenshots of the "Emergency Motion For Release For Medical Care" they filed for the "Murder on My Mind" rapper. "We need better care for Melly please spread this information đŸ™đŸŸ," they captioned the post.
