St Pete Pier Opens... But You Need a Ticket

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- This city opens its renovated pier Monday (July 6th), but for the first week you'll need reservations.

Mayor Rick Kriseman says they're putting the system in place to keep the new pier from being overwhelmed in its first week of operation. Social distancing because of the coVID-19 pandemic is also a factor.

Instead of everything being concentrated in one building over the water, like the old inverted pyramid or the Million Dollar Pier that preceded it, the renovated pier has stores and shops scattered along the causeway from the waterfront out to Pier Point.

The new pier took six years to complete, from the 2014 tear down of the pyramid to this year's opening, which was delayed by the pandemic.
