Nicki Minaj has opened up about her sudden support of President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
A preview of her upcoming interview with Katie Miller, the wife of Stephen Miller, was posted to social media on Monday, February 2. In it, Miller asked Minaj what inspired her to get involved with conservative politics. After questioning whether it was his stances on immigration or religious freedom, the "Everybody" rapper explained it was neither.
“Religious freedom is something that’s very important to me," she replied. "But if I’m being honest, President Trump … when I saw how he was being treated, over and over and over, I just couldn’t handle it.”
“I felt that a lot of that bullying and the smear campaigns and all of the lying, I felt that that had been done to me for so many years,” she continued. “And I was watching it in real time happen to someone else, and I didn’t think he deserved it.”
In another clip that's going around the Barbz's timelines, Miller also asked Minaj what made her "wake up" and see the issues behind negative topics within the MAGA world, such as California Governor Gavin Newsom and the situation in Nigeria. Minaj was cryptic with her responses, but the rapper essentially said she was "pushed" into pursuing this new calling in her life.
“During the last campaign … I saw something, and I texted someone I knew right away, and I said, ‘This is a mistake,'" she explained. "And I also said, ‘All of this is making me want to get into politics.'”
“And then there was something that happened a few months ago that, if I wasn’t going to do it before,” she continued. “I don’t want to talk about it... I will say, sometimes people can push you so much, that they push you all the way into your next calling. That’s what happened with me.”
Nicki Minaj recently came out in support of Trump a few weeks ago after she appeared in an interview with Erika Kirk, met with the president, and spoke at the U.S. Treasury's summit about the Trump Accounts. She also bragged about receiving the Trump Gold Card free of charge.
