If you live in the Tampa Bay area, you're used to calls from the 813, 727, 941, 352, and 863. But starting January 22nd, get ready to see calls from a 656 area code!
Don't worry, your number won't change if you have existing service. But if you need to get new service in Hillsborough County, you could get a number with the 656.
According to ABC Action News:
Your current telephone number will not change if you have an existing 813 number. However, if you seek new phone service after February 21, 2022, you may be assigned a phone number with the 656 area code. Starting this month, you will need to dial the area code + telephone number for all local calls. You will continue to dial 1 + area code + telephone number for all long-distance calls.
