A medical condition that prevents a woman from hearing male voices? A blessing or a curse?
After 'Ms. Chen' felt sick and heard ringing noises and went to sleep. When she woke up the next morning, she was unable to hear her boyfriends voice, and discovered she was unable to hear ANY male voices at all.
Ms. Chen went to the hospital, and was diagnosed with a rare hearing condition 'Reverse-slope hearing loss.' The sudden illness that happened overnight, (could be linked to a viral infection) affects around 3,000 people in the United States and Canada.
According to doctor of audiology Patricia Johnson says the condition is when you can't hear low pitch speech/low frequencies (like men's voices.) You can understand higher-frequency speech (like women and children.)
Johnson says people can prevent this hearing loss by protecting their ears from loud noises and doing things that are good for your heart like cardio exercises. Johnson adds there are a few treatments for reversing reverse-slope hearing loss. Because the condition is genetic, it's difficult to fix the damage.
Woah, wait... What if a doctor has the cure but she just can't hear him?-@georgiasmith87
