If you use Zelle, you might want to be careful as there have been many fraud cases across the country where people have lost millions.
Scott Schaefer from Florida lost $9,000 through Zelle and said that he did not fall for a scam nor did he initiate the transfer himself. He noticed the money was being transferred to somebody that he didn't know and immediately called his bank to stop the transfer.
The transfer ended up going through and he ended being hit again even after he moved his money to a new account and asked for Zelle not to be attached. Schaefer never got his money back because his bank said the transfers came from his own device.
The scammers can either hack into a person's device or use phishing techniques. These fraud cases are pushing U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis to push for change in helping protect people from these types of fraud.
