FWC Gets New Breathalyzer

Officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission have a new mobile breathalyzer unit just in time for the Fourth of July.

They say there is a zero-tolerance policy for anyone driving a boat under the influence, and anyone caught being impaired will be immediately arrested and faces files of up to 500-bucks.

Previously, the breathalyzer test would be done at the jail, allowing time for the body to metabolize some of the alcohol.

The FWC says impaired boaters were responsible for 38 accidents last year, claiming the lives of seven people.
