Veteran Business Group Opens 1st Florida Chapter

TAMPA -- A national organization that promotes veteran entrepreneurship is starting its first Florida chapter. "Bunker Labs" is launching in Tampa with a kickoff event a week from Thursday.

Erik Maltais is a local entrepreneur, a Marine Corps veteran, and one of three volunteer city leaders involved with Bunker Labs. He says only five percent of people leaving the military start their own businesses, compared with more than half of World War two-era veterans. That's even though one in four have expressed interest in entrepreneurship after their service.

Maltais says community leaders will attend and talk about what to expect from Bunker Labs, and how the group supports veteran entrepreneurship.

The launch event is being held at Sofwerx (softworks) on 2nd Avenue in Ybor City, September 26th, starting at 5:30 p.m.
