Phony Roofers Are Ripping Off & Burglarizing Homeowners In Stuart

Police in Stuart are warning about three men who are going door to door, posing as roof repairmen in an attempt to steal.

Two of the men were identified as Alan Tony Ely and Anthony Mitchell. The third suspect's identity is unknown but he goes by a few aliases.

On Monday, they were driving around Stuart in a van with a trailer attached, passing out a flyer describing their product and asking homeowners if they want a demonstration. After applying some of the product to the roof, they demand money from the victim.

Meanwhile, police say while that was going on, one of them steals items from inside the house.

Police say they are not licensed contractors and the product appears to be asphalt tar.

Officials say you should verify a contractor's license before hiring anyone and never allow strangers into your home unattended.

The search is on for the suspects.
