Rihanna’s Demo Of Selena Gomez’s ‘Same Old Love’ Leaked & It’s A Bop

Rihanna's demo of Selena Gomez's "Same Old Love" has fans divided!

On Tuesday (May 26), the previously unheard demo leaked online, sparking an almost instantaneous Twitter battle as fans fought over whose version reigned supreme. "The leaked Same Old Love demo by @rihanna iz way bettah!!!" one Twitter user wrote. While another proclaimed, "idk why i love rihanna but her version of same old love just doesn’t sound right. i’m glad she gave it away cause it’s just not rihanna."

Despite fans' varying opinions on who deserved the track, one of the song's writers, Charli XCX, previously spoke about how "Same Old Love" ultimately ended up in the right hands. "I think at one point Rihanna was gonna sing it or something, but then I think the direction of her record changed and it wasn’t right for her anymore (Anti is one of my fave albums of the year, by the way, slay)," she wrote on Tumblr back in 2016. "Then I think Selena heard it and was into it, and she sang it, and it just suited her voice and her story so well. The song felt so emotional and real coming from her. I was really happy she cut it; it felt very powerful."

As fans know, "Same Old Love" was the second single off of Selena's 2015 album, Revival. She previously explained what the track meant to her, telling Rolling Stone, per Genuis, "It’s a song about a cycle, a cycle that people understand. It drives you mad, but it’s beautiful. People have seen most of the choices that I’ve made in my life. And I love every choice that I’ve made. Because now I understand how to apply that to my music. This is who I am. I’m glad my life was never perfect."
