BTS Perform 'Permission To Dance' Ahead Of United Nations General Assembly

BTS was invited to the opening of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City this week. The K-pop group performed 'Permission to Dance' at the United Nations Secretariat Building ahead of their appearance at the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Moment on Monday (Sept. 20).

The boy band attended the General Assembly along with South Korean President Moon Jae-in. Recently, Moon appointed the members of BTS as “special presidential envoy for future generations and culture." The ceremony took place last week in Seoul.

It is a huge honor, both as an individual and a citizen, to be able to hold the title of special presidential envoy for future generations and culture," BTS member Kim Nam-joon said in a statement. We’re always thinking about how we could give more and return the love we have received, and we’re just thankful that the president has presented us with such a big opportunity. We will do our best as special envoys."

The United Nations said this special performance "accompanies the band's remarks at the SDG Moment and is meant to draw their audience's attention to the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals and to inspire action."

BTS has previously visited the United Nations back in 2018. At the 73rd General Assembly, the band was recruited to help launch Generation Unlimited. This campaign aimed to "get every young person into quality education, training or employment by 2030."

This year, BTS will support the United Nation's goal to shed light on the "need for greater urgency and ambition to end the pandemic and ensure an equitable and green recovery and accelerated implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals."
