Halsey is reflecting on the "challenging" past decade as they celebrate turning 30, commemorating both the struggles and "life altering joy" she experienced throughout her twenties.
The "Ego" singer took to their Instagram on Tuesday (October 1) to share lengthy post looking back at the "inexplicable changes" over the past 10 years alongside photos from a celebration in honor of their 30th birthday on September 29. Wearing a sparkling gold dress, a beaming Halsey was surrounded by loved ones to celebrate the milestone birthday, including their fiancé Avan Jogia.
"My life has gone through inexplicable changes the past decade. Some beautiful and awe inspiring, some puzzling and painful," Halsey said. "But 30 came like those ten years never happened, (much like the beautiful birthdays back home in Jersey before I had ever heard of the name Halsey) SCREAMING in an Italian American heritage hall with the people I love. I thought the only reason I'd have all these people in a room with me at the same time would be because I was in a wooden box in the center, but there we were. With cake and crying and bare feet. I don't know how they did it. But they made all the noise of my twenties stop, and replaced it with joy."
The "Lucky" musician compared the ending of their 20s to another time in their life where they experienced challenges and how that growth has led to a feeling of joy as she enters a brand new decade. Earlier this year, Halsey revealed that they had been enduring a private health battle for two years.
"The universe, God, the stars have done this to me twice," Halsey said. "First, just before I turned 20. By challenging me with difficulty for years and then giving me life altering joy just as I slid into base, from 19. And now by giving me a twenties full of struggle turned lesson turned growth, and replacing it with JOY as I transition from 29 to 30. And both times, that buzzer-beater joy is so strong that it settles the 9 years that came before it."
Halsey concluded the heartfelt message with a feeling of gratitude for all the birthdays yet to come.
"A long caption, I know, but this birthday is symbolic to me for so many reason. Every birthday till the end of time will be. I am so grateful to see them all arrive. Thank you for all the birthday wishes 🤍"
