Tori Spelling hopes her divorce from Dean McDermott sets a "great example" for her kids and other families going through a similar situation.

On the latest episode of her misSPELLING podcast, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum opened up about her divorce from her ex after nearly two decades of marriage, which was finalized earlier this month, and how she feels they found a way to keep things normal for their children, per People. Spelling and McDermott are parents to five kids: Liam, 18, Stella, 17, Hattie, 14, Finn, 13, and Beau, 8.

"Our kids are most important. And it makes me sad to think that so many marriages are not in a good place. And it's sad to think that the human that you started this beautiful, fairy tale-esque dream, because that's every young person's dream is a fairy tale," she said. "And to be lead in your own rom com and to create such beautiful memories to raise families together. And then one day, it's done. And people walk away and they hate each other."

The Scary Movie 2 actress explained that she is happy with her and McDermott's relationship post-split because messy divorces and dramatic breakups can often add to an already difficult experience, especially when the couple has children.

"They can't see each other. You know, it's just the kids go back and forth and it makes me sad. And I feel beyond blessed that I have the opposite of that," she said.

Spelling shared how proud she is that she and her "came out of this divorce with a clean slate."

"Neither of us asked each other for anything," she said. "We walked away as two complete parties that are just there to support, love, raise and set a great example of how families can divorce, uncouple and lead by example and still be there for their family."

Spelling filed for divorce from McDermott in March 2024 after 18 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences and listing their date of separation as June, 17, 2023. They settled their divorce this month late last month and filed documents to the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles on November 3.
