Target is alerting customers that have recently purchased a “Letters to Santa” mailbox from to return it to your nearest Target store.
The Minneapolis based retailer has issued a recall for roughly 174,300 decorative mailboxes that were sold nationwide and online at Target.com through October and November 2021.
The red and white mailboxes, contain mail slots on the top that pose a laceration risk and according to the recall posted Friday, Target has received nine reports of sharp mail slot openings and seven incidents of lacerations, with three of those requiring medical attention.
If you want to determine if your mailbox is affected by the recall, Target advises you to check the item number found on the sticker located on the bottom of the product.
Item numbers of the affected mailboxes:
- 234-17-8556: Red or White mailbox
- 234-20-9275: Red & White (2 count)
If you have a “Letters to Santa” mailbox that is included in the recall, you are asked to immediately stop using it i and return it to any Target store for a gift card with the full refund amount.
If you purchased the item online at Target.com, you can contact Target for a prepaid return label to ship it back, and a gift card.
