A young girl from southern Maryland is gaining national attention for her discovery found off the beaches of Calvert county.

On Christmas morning, 9-year-old Molly was looking for fossils and found a large tooth.

After taking it to the Calvert Marine Museum, she was informed it was from a Megalodon, an extinct species of shark known as one of the largest predators ever to exist.

These creatures went extinct around 3.5 million years ago.
