Family Pleads For Return Of Cremated Ashes Stolen From Post Office

Las Vegas Cremations is offering a reward of $3,000 for the return of the cremated remains of three people after they were stolen from a post office in Las Vegas. An employee of the company was getting ready to ship the remains to the deceased's family members when a person drove up and grabbed the three green bags which contained the ashes.

"I believe the person who took the cremated remains just thought that it was a Christmas package or something like that, not knowing the value of the cremated remains. They truly are invaluable to the family who had the loss," Las Vegas Cremations General Manager Philip Smith told FOX5.

One of the sets of remains was being shipped to Alabama for a memorial service for 77-year-old Joel Pugatch, who passed away in November. His four daughters were devastated when they learned that his ashes were taken.

"We knew they were going to be shipped over the last couple of days, and then to get this phone call, it’s devastating,” his daughter, Deborah Pugatch, told WBRC.

The ashes were being shipped in "Priority Mail" boxes and have a sticker that identifies the contents as "Cremated Remains."

The company said that whoever stole the boxes can return them with no questions asked.

"Las Vegas Cremations is shocked and saddened by the criminal act and wants nothing more than to have the cremated remains returned as soon as possible." the company said.
