IRS warns of new text scam aimed to get you to accept fake stimulus checks.

IRS warns of new text scam aimed to get people to accept fake stimulus checks. This is one of the latest ways scammers are trying to steal your identity and money!

The text messages often read, “You have received a direct deposit of $1,200 from Covid-19 Treasury Fund. Click here to accept it. " The text messages also say you need to take further action to accept this payment into your account. That is the bait. You are instructed to click a link to finish accepting your money, but that’s the hook the scammers have set for you.

You should never click links in text messages from people you don't know.
