The National Geographic Society has announced that Earth has a fifth body of water. The Southern Ocean stretches the circumference of Antarctica to the 60-degrees South latitudinal line. The cold body of water is host to marine life such as humpback whales, penguins, and seals!
Scientists and oceanographers have known about the Southern Ocean for years and it was named by the US Board on Geographic Names two decades ago, however, no one told Science textbook writers or teachers.
