If you’ve driven in pretty much any neighborhood in Tampa, you’ve most likely seen at least one purple streetlight. I always wondered why they were randomly purple, but kinda liked them.
Well Tampa Electric has the answer for us! And they need your help finding all of the purple streetlights in Tampa.
Turns out if you see a purple streetlight, it means the light is malfunctioning!
TECO explained to NewsChannel 8:
It’s an issue with the filters. So there’s red, blue, and yellow (filters). If you take the yellow away, what are you left with? Red and blue, which makes purple. When all of those filters are not working right, it can distort the color of the light.
