TAMPA -- Hillsborough County is looking at giving up to $125,000 worth of incentive support to a couple of movies about hackers and manatee mayhem.
The county commission will consider film incentives at Wednesday's meeting for two productions: $100,000 for "No Wake Zone," a horror movie featuring a mutated manatee, and $25,000 for Hack'D, described as a fantasy about getting revenge on a hacker.
Hillsborough County has a film incentive program that offers a 10-percent rebate on qualifying productions. It's meant to compensate for the lack of a statewide film incentive program.
Requirements include: At least ten positive social media posts, two five-minute video testimonials praising their film-making experience in Hillsborough County, a media day with key directors and talent, still photos for county promotions, and an end credit with the county and Film Tampa Bay logos as well as the text "Filmed in Hillsborough County, Florida." There are also requirements for hiring local crew members and spending on hotel rooms.
Hack'D is filming now, and No Wake Zone will start filming in November, with both scheduled to release in about a year
