Governor Ron DeSantis is not taking "no" for an answer from state law makers on a special session.

Today, DeSantis called for lawmakers to take immediate action to "require maximum participation by Florida law enforcement in enforcing federal immigration law."

He also said he will ask that local authorities be given the power by the federal government to detain and deport illegal immigrants who are committing crimes in addition to ICE.

In addition, he wants criminal penalty for illegal entry under state law to compliment Federal law.

The governor has called for a special legislative session to convene on January 27th, to start drafting legislation that dove tails with the Trump administration's new immigration policy.

"Swift action gives state lawmakers a chance to be a force multiplier and per usual, other states will follow Florida's lead." said DeSantis.

He added that he just spoke with the president-elect who told him "Inflation was an issue, but I got elected because of immigration"

To which DeSantis said, "We need to end the illegal immigration crisis once and for all."
