Uncle Sam is tightening its Cuba embargo, with new restrictions limiting travel and cutting bank access. Cuba expert Dr. Andy Gomez says this is another example of the U-S tightening the noose, but it could backfire. People-to-people educational travel is no longer allowed along with travel for professional meetings or conferences. U.S.-jurisdiction banks can no longer use the so-called “U-turn” authorization to process certain transactions involving Cuban nationals.
