100 Gallons of Blood? One Florida Man Gave That Much Over 40 Years

CLEARWATER - - If you want to succeed at something, be consistent.

John "Tony" Mann of Clearwater says that philosophy helped him reach a milestone.

Mann has been a blood donor, giving blood or platelets, since 1979, when he was in college. Tuesday (18th), the OneBlood blood bank organization honored him for donating 100 gallons over the past four decades.

OneBlood says Mann has helped save hundreds of lives and touched hundreds of families over the years. He got to meet one of those people. Kristine Flemister is a three-time cancer survivor. She was transfusion-dependent for two years because of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. She says she "owes (her) life and a debt of gratitude" to Mann and people like him who donate.
