Polk County Residents Create Online Petition To Get Day After Halloween Off

Schools to get the day after Halloween off?

A Polk County School District online petition on change.org is wanting students and teachers to have the day after Halloween off.

The petition that's gained over 18,000 signatures wants pupils to have the day off like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and now want Halloween off.

(This would've been amazing back when I was in school Trick-or-Treating!) The petition states that students, teachers, and staff will be returning back home late, and will affect them the next day.

There's also been a similar petition in Hillsborough County has received close to 40,000 signatures.

However, on the Polk County facebook page, said it's a no go replying to the petition with:

"Unfortunately, our yearly school calendar is set well in advance, and barring an emergency, we can not close schools on short notice."

The post though, had a sense of humor, including:

"We hope you have a safe and happy Halloween.
Our school nurses will be ready to assist you with any candy-related ailments when you return ... on Friday."

Well, sorry folks! School's will be in session as per usual.

However, another online petition is working to get a "National Trick-or-Treat Day." This day would be changed from Oct. 31st to the last Saturday of the month off. This petition has gotten around 150,000 signatures.

So, things might be changing in the next couple of years with School days and Halloween.
