Atlantic Wave Could Become Tropical Depression

The chances of tropical trouble are now up. The National Hurricane Center's latest report is giving a tropical wave over the central Atlantic that a medium chance (40%) of tropical cyclone formation over the next 7 days.

A tropical depression could form by early next week while it approaches the Lesser Antilles.

So far, the season has produced five named storms, including Hurricane Debby, which made landfall Aug. 5 as a Category 1 hurricane near Steinhatchee in Taylor County, before moving across rural North Florida.

Experts have forecast an above-average hurricane season this year, which could mean more than 20 named storms before the end of November.

The peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is Sept. 10th. The next named storm is "Francine."
